Background

Jit Sin High School used to share the same school compound with Jit Sin Independent High School in Aston Road, but later moved on to a new location in Taman Sri Rambai, both in Bukit Mertajam. Students attend classes from Form 1 to Form 6, and these are organized into the morning and afternoon sessions. Jit Sin High School is known nationwide as a top elite school due to its excellent results in public examinations such as Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR)[1], Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)[2] and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM)[3] consistently every year. This success is largely attributed to its merit-based selection of students from primary vernacular education. Entry requirement for acceptance into Jit Sin High School is a maximum of 10 accumulative points scored in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) over 7 subjects, where an A constitutes to 1 point and E is 5 points.

In October 2011, the school has been promoted as a cluster sekolah or 'sekolah kluster kecemerlangan', the first vernacular secondary school in Penang to be awarded the prize.

Developments

In 2007, the Harmonica and Choir Club and Environmental Cadets have been disbanded as a uniformed body and recategorized into clubs, following new guidelines set by the Education Ministry.

The school has seen changes made by the principal as an effort to improve the declining discipline among the students - notably the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance cameras. Stricter regulations has also been enforced by the school disciplinary board.

The school was awarded SKK (sekolah kluster kecemerlangan) title in October, 2011.

Wifi has been made available in the school campus by the IT Department in 2010.
